The government provided $3 million in the 2008-09 budget to help individuals who provide in-home care to the elderly and dependent relatives. This money will be used to double the Caregiver Tax Credit, the Infirm Dependent Tax Credit, the Disability Supplement Tax Credit and the Disability Amount for Self Tax Credit.

The following programs are offered through the Ministry of Social Services to assist low-income seniors with their basic needs:

Make it possible for moderate-income seniors to access suitable rental accommodations ensuring that rents are maintained at the low end of the market.

A program that helps low-income seniors with disabilities to make minor adaptations to their homes.

Designed for tenants living in senior rental units managed through the Social Housing Rental Program (Social Housing).

Provides a top-up grant that is combined with the grants offered through SaskEnergy's Saskatchewan EnerGuide for Houses Program and the federal ecoENERGY Retrofit Initiative. (pdf document)

A program that provides financial assistance to homeowners in order to help with the costs of energy retrofits. (pdf document)

A program that provides financial assistance to rental property owners who house low-income tenants in order to help with the costs of energy retrofits to rental units. (pdf document)

Provides a monthly supplement to seniors who have little or no income other than the federal Old Age Security pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement.

Provides suitable, adequate and affordable rental housing for low-income seniors and families in more than 280 communities throughout the province.
