On June 5, 2008, the Task Force on Housing Affordability officially presented Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer with a report entitled "Affordable Housing: An Investment".

Prepared by Ted Merriman and Bob Pringle, the report outlines recommendations on how to address affordable housing challenges in Saskatchewan. In total, 85 individuals, groups and organizations were consulted in 16 Saskatchewan communities, and 53 written proposals were received. Minister Harpauer will be providing an initial response in the coming weeks.The Task Force spent more than two months meeting with stakeholders across the province after it was set up by Harpauer and the Government of Saskatchewan in March 2008. The Task Force's mandate was to:

  • Improve housing affordability and security for those least able to afford rising housing costs;
  • Increase capacity in the housing system to encourage the creation of affordable housing; and
  • Examine how best to facilitate the long term monitoring, policy development and provision of affordable housing in Saskatchewan.
